Christmas is the best known holiday, spiritual or secular, in the world. There's no bigger global celebration. We take more time preparing for, enjoying and reflecting on it afterward than on any other season.
We don't really know Jesus' birthday. December 25th was chosen in the 4th century after Christianity was accepted in the Roman Empire. As the church grew it began turning pagan holidays into Christian celebrations. December 25, originally a celebration of the Sun god at winter solstice returning from its southward journey, reborn, now became the international birthday of the Son of God.
But what is the deeper reason for Christmas? In worship this month, we will explore The Reason for Christmas.
Each week looks at one big way Christmas changes the world. I hope you can hear each message. If you're away, watch, listen to, or read that weeks sermon at our website.
I hope these messages somehow perk your fascination for information which, more than history, is about the world's transformation, all because of a little baby born in a barn, who is Prince of peace, and King of every nation. Come explore the reason for Christmas.
