Fifth Grade Stepping Stone

5th Grade Stepping Stone: First Communion

The fifth grade stepping stone is an important milestone in a family’s faith journey. This journey will formally begin on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010 and will culminate on either Palm Sunday or Maundy Thursday.

Families will attend Lenten Worship service and then have a class with the Pastors afterwards in discovery hall. Each fifth grader will have an opportunity to serve during one of the Lenten worship services.

During this journey we will be going to Touch of Glaze to make chalices (Feb.28, at 10:15) that we will use during our Seder Meal (March 14 at 10:15 in East Hall-for 1st communion students only). Our goal is for families to have a growing and enriching experience in their faith.

Heifer Project

As part of our Lenten journey Sunday School children will be raising money for animals or seeds for the Heifer International project.

Each class will learn either about an animal or crops that provides a new start for a community around the world.

We say help a community, because part of the Heifer program is “pass it forward”. So if we provide money for an animal now that family will pass on male and a female baby to someone else to continue the growth in their commu-nity. So first they are Blessed and then they get to be a Blessing to someone else.

You should be able to ask your child what their class has adopted and what part of the world it will go to.

Each child will receive a bank to collect their money in and turn it in on or before Palm Sunday, March 28.

Heifer believes that if you give person a fish, you feed him for a day but, teach him how to

fish feed him for a life time.
