Daily Devotionals

Daily Devotionals are provided for the 40 days of the Justice for the Poor campaign.  Click here to view and/or sign up to recieve the devotionals via email.  If you do not have email, a hard copy can be picked up from the Welcome Center.  The 40 devotions are part of a program called A Dollar a Day for Poverty.  The program’s purpose is to raise an awareness of the issues of poverty around us and to highlight the twenty-two ministries of Outreach for Hope that work in communities of poverty in the Greater Milwaukee Synod.

Consider A Dollar a Day for Poverty

We are asking that along with reading and contemplating the devotion for each day, you also set aside a dollar a day as an offering.   Each day that small sacrifice will be an opportunity to remind you of the great sacrifice that Christ made for us, and it will also remind us of those who live in the chasm of poverty with little way out, and for whom every dollar counts.  Outreach for Hope churches and ministries are the presence of that sacrificing Christ in communities of poverty, and for them as well, every dollar counts.  The money you give will go to support those churches in their vital work of being the light of the Risen Christ.

Using these Devotionals

These devotions can be for individual use, but are even more meaningful when shared with a partner or a family or a small group.  The questions for Pondering can take on deeper meaning if shared.
Partnership Pauses with Outreach for Hope:  Besides pausing to remember and pray for each of the twenty-two ministries of Outreach for Hope we also lift up Partnerships of the Greater Milwaukee Synod that relate to issues of poverty, and we lift up in prayer particular problems that are often associated with poverty in our communities

At the End of 40 Days – Giving Your Gift

At Ascension, we will collect the “Dollar a Day for Poverty” at the October 30 and 31 worship services using an envelope that will be provided to you.  You may turn in cash or a check made payable to “Ascension Lutheran Church” and earmarked for  ‘Outreach for Hope.’

If you wish to donate individually, outside of Ascension’s program, please send the offering directly to Outreach for Hope, 1212 S. Layton Blvd., Milwaukee WI  53215.  Checks sent can be made out to “Outreach for Hope.”

The Amount:  Give whatever you are able.  If a dollar a day is more than you can give, that’s okay.  We welcome your gift of the heart, no matter how small.  If you are able to give more than $40 we ask that you consider an extra gift to Outreach for Hope.  Thank you for your commitment to ministries that walk with people in poverty.
