LEAD PASTOR
Ascension Lutheran Church
JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Lead Pastor is the primary vision keeper, preaching planner, staff and leadership overseer, and spiritual guide for the whole congregation, under Christ.

As the vision keeper, the Lead Pastor inspires and leads the visioning process for seeking God’s future for the congregation, in close concert with the Church Council, the Administrative Pastor and full staff - including volunteer staff. The Lead Pastor will be the primary vision-caster, repeatedly calling everyone to keep the vision of Christ as the guide for Ascension’s ministries.

As the preaching planner, the Lead Pastor prepares and administers the preaching schedule of themes and preachers, and balances the year to reflect the four wings of Ascension’s mission statement. The Lead Pastor will be the primary preacher, sharing the pulpit generously.

As overseer of staff and leadership, the Lead Pastor has primary responsibility for the spiritual nurture and development of the staff, the council and voluntary leadership, and of the whole congregation. It is this pastor’s job to keep the congregation in tune with God’s Word and in keeping with the teaching of the Lutheran Church.

The Lead Pastor is to work closely with the Administrative Pastor in the planning and carrying out of the mission of this congregation through its various ministries.

  • Preaching

  • Personal Spiritual Soundness
  • Work with Administrative Pastor on ministry
  • Primary Teacher
  • Prime oversight to Office Manager, Deaconess, Parish Nurse, Pastoral Assistants.
  • Visitation, funerals, weddings, baptisms and counseling as requested
