The Passion Story performed by the Ascension Youth Mime Ministry began as an inspiration of a previous youth director at Ascension. While listening to the music from “Dances With Wolves” on a winter evening in 1993, a vision of Jesus and the Last Supper appeared to her. She envisioned Ascension youth portraying the final hours of Christ’s life in “Mime”...no words, just their actions synchronized to this beautiful music...communicating the power and poignancy of the Passion Story.
Ascension youth first brought this gift from God to life on Good Friday in 1994. After performing The Passion Mime at Ascension for four years, in 1998 our youth answered God’s call to share the gospel message with other congregations. Over the past fourteen years, The Passion has been performed before thousands of people at more than 200 churches in Wisconsin and Illinois.
The youth of Ascension have made it their mission to touch people’s hearts with God’s message of love, hope, and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. It is our honor to bring this powerful and dramatic story to life for you.
Travel back to the time and events of Christ’s Passion! Ascension youth people re-enact the drama of the Last Supper, the betrayal, the trial, the crucifixion and the sorrow surrounding Jesus’ death. On Good Friday, the Sanctuary is transformed into a backdrop for a moving presentation, all in MIME, of the powerful Passion message. The enactment is open to members, guests, friends, family and the Community. This has become an annual production of this timeless and most important Christian story.
Each year, new high school youth join the Troup and dedicate their time and talent during an intense schedule of practice and performances. And each year, every Troupe member repeatedly concludes that it is an unequaled and exhilarating faith experience for each participant.
Ascension youth in Grades 9-12 are encouraged to “try out” to be part of the Mime Cast. Watch for information about tryouts and The Jesus Retreat for the Mime Cast in January.
