Nurture Groups

What is a Nurture Group? A Nurture Group is a small group of caring people, where you

• meet new friends
• grow spiritually
• share life experiences
• study scripture
• give and receive support
• and have fun!
   

Nurture Groups are growing at Ascension. We offer mixed groups, groups for singles, couples, women and men, as well as special groups according to interest. There are biking and hiking groups,  Young Couples and Singles Fellowship Group and Retired Singles.

All groups provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere in which to share and grow. Ascension invites you to participate in a Nurture Group and strengthen the bonds of community.

Parish Nurse Program

Ascension Lutheran Church has joined in partnership with Waukesha Hospital System to provide parish nurse services to our congregation. Parish Nurses are registered nurses with advanced training that prepares them to provide wholistic health care and strengthen the link between physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.

Parish Nurses:

Educate members about the relationship between lifestyle, attitudes, faith and well-being. Special classes are offered on topics such as smoking cessation, diet control and stress reduction.
 
Counsel members about health issues, self-care and disease prevention, as well as coping with chronic illness. In addition to seeing members during regular office hours at the church, parish nurses visit members in their homes, hospitals and nursing homes.
 
Identify health care problems early and refer members to the most cost effective, appropriate health services available. They help members access needed health and community services.
 
Facilitate programs that promote healing, training congregation members as volunteers and support group leaders. They participate in existing programs and initiate new ones in cooperation with the church community.
The Health and Wholeness Ministries at Ascension include Touch A Heart Ministry (providing meals, transportation, phone calls, and visitation), Deaf Ministry (providing interpreters for services/classes and sign language classes), Bereavement Ministry (mailing periodic letters and cards), Living Letters Ministry (mailing monthly homemade cards), and Parish Nursing Ministry.
