Joyful Worship at Ascension Lutheran

Ascension Lutheran Church is a place where people gather in joyful praise. Worship is the center of our life together. Each week we come together to share God's love, open our hearts to God's Word, and draw close to God and one another in prayer, communion, and praise.

Ascension offers several worship times to meet people's differing schedule needs. Currently there is two Sunday Services, 9:00 and 10:30 a.m.

You will also find a variety of different worship forms and styles of music, from traditional to contemporary, liturgical to more informal. Our two basic types of worship include The Festival Service (liturgical) and The Celebration Service (contemporary).

The Festival Service (Thurs. 7 p.m. & Sun. 9 a.m.) will follow several liturgies including The Lutheran Book of Worship, The Feast of Life Folk Service, Taize Meditation Services, as well as Hymn-fests, Gospel Services, and Multi-cultural Services. The 9:00 a.m. service on Sunday will be supported by various instruments. Our 22 rank pipe organ majestically leads the traditional worship. Folk liturgies may be led by piano, guitar, flute, and rhythm instruments. An Adult Choir, Folk Choir, High School Youth Choir, Joyful Sounds Choir, Angel Choir, Cherub Choir and Bell Choir all inspire the congregation to lift their hearts and voices in lively praise.

The Celebration Service (Sun. 10:30 a.m.) is designed as an informal outreach service. Upbeat, inspirational music is lead by the Celebration Band which includes keyboard, lead guitar, bass guitar, saxophone/flute, drums, and several singers. Songs are readily singable and in a contemporary style. The simple format and touching, heartfelt spirit of Celebration Services create a worship experience that is easily understood and appreciated by visitors, especially those who are unfamiliar with liturgical churches, or are new to church life altogether. A warm sense of community is shown by the many people who help lead worship.

Both Festival and Celebration Services are unified in following the same four-part basic outline: Gathering + Word + Meal + Sending. These four, which go all the way back to the early church, are the thread that weave together God's Word and Holy Communion so that the worshiper in either format experiences the wonder of God's gracious presence.

KIDZ PRAIZE (Sundays at 10:25 a.m.) is a lively worship experience provided for children before Sunday School. It includes exciting music, prayers, puppets, skits, videos, readings, and blessings. It is targeted for children in grades 1-6, led by a team of energetic adults and youth.

God's Word of life is proclaimed boldly in several ways: through biblical, practical sermons, scriptures read by lay people, personal faith sharing, puppet ministry and drama. Worship is our joyful response to the great Good News: "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him may not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
